My recommendation for touring is to follow a clockwise route if you can. It reduces your number of left turns and makes your ride safer.
You can check with the Tofino Bus for connections to Nanaimo. If you are moving very quickly you could do the Sunshine Coast loop that in two days, but they might be long. You'd need to schedule at least a day... continued

Island Bike Brings the Vancouver Island Mountain Bike
Community and Clubs Together
Island Bike is a new family oriented mountain biking event coming to the Vancouver Island and Gulf Island Communities. It was started by local companies, Freak Maps and Dirty Girl Designs, as a concept to bring the Island clubs and their members together to show off their own unique trails. Each year Island Bike will be hosted by a different club. Guides from within the club will showcase their local trails, as well as show off local music, food, mountain bike celebrities and hospitality.
For 2013, the Arrowsmith Mountain Bike Club showing off some of the newest Hammerfest Mountain Bike Area trails on March 23. Hammerfest is a major stop on the Island Cup tour where the cross country race will be taking place the next day. The festivities and ride kickoff point will take place at Tranquility Woods Campground, about half a kilometer before the Englishmen River Falls Park entrance, starting at 9:00am.
Local professional riders and builders, Dylan Tremblay and Riley Mcintosh, will be also be joining in the festivities and giving tips. For those looking for a new, or even their first, mountain bike; Kona, Giant, Marin, Trek and Naked Bicycles will be there with demo bikes for everyone to try.
Dan Cammiade, owner of Freak Maps and newly elected president of the South Island Mountain Bike Society (SIMBS), came up with the idea while riding with Michelle Haines from Dirty Girl Designs.
“As a director of SIMBS I was looking for a way for different club executives to gain the chance to meet each other and share knowledge; and for members to meet other like minded people. Each Island club has made great strides in their respected areas, and by working together even greater accomplishments can be made for the sport and region.”
Island Bike is a family event, and this means there really will be something for everyone. For the adults; come ride, chat, eat, and share trail building and maintenance tips. For the kids; some of the bike companies to bring their kids bikes as well, and a kid friendly course will be setup to try them out. And, while the parents are out on the riding, there will be kids activities on site.
Dirty Girl Designs started in January of 2011, and is owned and operated by Michelle Haines in Qualicum Beach. Primarily designing mountain bike graphic themed shirts for women, she also does some casual and men’s clothing as well.
Freak Maps is a GIS Cartography and publishing company on Vancouver Island; owned and solely run by Dan Cammiade, a local cartographer, writer and avid outdoorsman. He specializes in recreation and event mapping, and the self-publishing of local guide books.
The South Island Mountain Bike Society is based in Victoria, and they focus on promoting mountain biking that is environmentally sound & socially responsible,
coordinating and training volunteers to build trails and maintain them, and working to get more trails open for biking.
